Hydrotherapy

Image 1 Hydrotherapy for your dog in an expert, friendly environment.

Recommended and used by the veterinary profession, gamekeepers and estate managers canine hydrotherapy offers an effective, fun way to restore fitness and wellbeing in pet and working dogs.

Canine hydrotherapy is an effective rehabilitation treatment for dogs recovering from surgery or injury. It is also a safe, enjoyable form of exercise for healthy dogs.

Swimming or walking in water gently exercises every muscle of the animal’s body, helping them to rebuild or maintain strength, flexibility and stamina without risk of injury.

It’s important that they feel safe and protected and that you feel confident in the way our staff handle and care for your dog. It’s a place you can trust.

Designed and developed by people with a genuine love of dogs and other animals, Paddy’s Pool is a fun experience in ambient surroundings, where your dog will receive kind and expert therapy - sensitively and professionally administered by a responsible team who understand that every dog is special and different.

What can you expect?

Hydrotherapy is not fad or fashion. It is a serious, proven treatment, which, in expert hands, offers many benefits for your dog. It must be authorised by a vet and professionally delivered and tailored to the animal’s needs.

We’ll need a note of approval from your vet before we can proceed, along with medical details, proof of vaccinations, specific information about any injuries, surgical procedures and conditions.
The more we know about your dog, the better we can care for them and the sooner your dog will benefit.

The treatment

Each visit starts with your dog receiving a general health check by our qualified veterinary nurse—Tracey, followed by a nice warm, welcoming shower.

The dog is usually guided into the pool down a submerged, non-slip ramp, but some animals’ condition may mean lifting them in using a hoist.

Your dog can then swim in a variety of controlled ways, encouraged by sensitive persuasion, buoyancy aids and floating toys. They can swim freely in still water, or we can create gentle resistance through the use of water jets.

You are most welcome to watch poolside or relax in our waiting area. Your dog will never be left alone in the pool.
After each swim, your dog will be given a shower and dried with warm air.

Drying is especially important for warm muscles and it’s a good idea to bring a coat for your dog to travel home in.

Paddy’s Pool offers programmes for:

  • Rehabilitation after injury or surgery: individually monitored programme created jointly with your vet
  • Obesity management and control: regular exercise for older and overweight dogs
  • Fitness and stamina training: to tone up muscles prior to racing or working
  • Gentle exercise for older dogs: to improve flexibility in animals with stiff, weak and arthritic joints

You should plan for your first visit to last about an hour, to allow plenty of time for us to chat and begin to get to know you and your dog. Building confidence and a close rapport with the animal is an important part of the process.
